Contemplating Scripture as a Discipline

Contemplating Scripture as a Discipline

The First Song in Scripture (Exo. 15)

My wife & I studied Exodus 14/15 yesterday morning.

Paused

We both paused at how they went from… intense terrifying FEAR…fear can be a good emotion… not this time for these fleeing former slaves…

Egypt was better?

“Didn’t we tell you to leave us alone to serve the Egyptians in Chapter 14 to…..standing STILL and watching the Egyptian superpower charioted army fleeing from the now ranging animated Red Sea….

Contemplating the explosion

We closed our eyes to imagine and relish them “explode” in triumphant praise of their invisible God whose actions in the last weeks or month shouted loudly of both His sovereign power and intimate love…their selfless, self-existent Father of love.
When last did we explode in joy-filled singing and praise to YHWH? Singing this way should not be a Sunday thing I said to her. She nodded.

Life circumstances

In our present life circumstance, is YHWH’s hand for us visible?
Ask for help to behold his beautiful benevolent hand on you, even in pain and lack. Don’t waste your pain. Let it move us to remembering and singing.

Those lyrics?

Those lyrics were not just words we concluded… but a melody of freedom, a joyful tear-filled cry of freedom, and of great victory. A savoring of deliverance from imminent death or return to forced cruel labor.

For sure, the Egyptian army was going to force them back to the country to continue the forced severe slavery.

Narrow escape?

My wife and I imagined whether some of the Israelites thought that this was a narrow escape!
Can God redeem us from our present painful circumstance(s)?
Can he do that for you and your family?
Can he redeem the country?

Imagine this – Mindsets

Could you imagine the scenery? Selah.
What do you imagine? What comes to your mind?

Were they breathless with wonder as they watched the waves crash over Pharaoh’s strong army?

Did they think…”from slaves in the recent past to new divinely orchestrated freedom?”
This was no ordinary freedom.

This was salvific, delivering, and redeeming from powerful forces. YHWH and His Son Yeshua are still in this saving business…drawing his imagers to his kingdom through you and I. May His Name be hallowed, His kingdom come, and His will be done.

The Redeemed Response

At that moment, they do what only the redeemed do…sing from the heart loudly filled with passionate joy.
They sing….Israel and the mixed crowd with them.

You and I?

Has God redeemed us in Christ?
So, how do you sing?
Singing is the melody of salvation, the anthem of those who are tasting God’s victory and unfailing love.
Those delivered from bondage into God’s glorious freedom.

“Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: “I will sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea. “The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him….”

The Women also

Miriam sang to them: “Sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted. Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.”
Exodus 15:1-2, 21… NIV
